Episode 108: Turtles at 25

Another episode of Strangers with Comics is up for your enjoyment.  Westart off with our weekly segments.  In week in geek, Gabe talks about losing weight and his parent’s vacation toPuerto Rico.  Rob goes Christmas shopping and plays Dragonage.  Tony gives some love to A Dingo Ate my Podcast and sends best wishes to Jamie D of CGS who recently suffered a stroke.  In the TVroundup, Rob and Tony finally get around to watching Drag me to Hell and also watch some Riff Trax.  Gabe enjoys Starship Troopers and the strangers discuss why they all like that movie so much.

Our main topic is a discussion ofthe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who are celebrating their 25thanniversary this year.  We talk about the comics that started it all and move on to all the TV series and movies.  We also briefly touch on the many toys that have tied into the franchise.  Weekly comic books break down like this:  Books we liked included Blackest Night, Worlds Finest, Lone Ranger, Guardians of the Galaxy, Chew and Star Wars Legacy.  Books we didn’t care for include The Tick, Superman Secret Origin, JLA, JSA and Jericho.

I can remember exactly where I was when this awful decade came into being. Believe it or not, when I rang in the new year on January.I remember feeling filled with optimism. By entering this new era, I felt, we could wipe the slate clean. Maybe this would be a new age of peace, love, brother and sisterhood.

A new episode of Strangers with Comics appears! In this episode we get around to discussing some of the comic news headlines from around the news. But first, in our week in geek, Rob read some DMZ and played some PC games, Gabe got a new job and a new computer and Tony starts his staycation and plays Rock Band: The Beatles. In TV and Movie, Rob enjoyed Creature, Tony muses about Zorro the Gay Blade and Gabe checks out the new Whiteout movie. Wednesday comics round up is short and sweet this week.

A little late, but one of the first comics I remember getting was actually a Donal Duck. My favorite character as a kid, comic wise, was Strongbow from the Elfquest series. This was also the first series I seriously collected. Oldest comic I currenlty own. Not too sure, all my longboxes were stolen from my storage, so it would be something recent. It's hard to pick a single geek moment from my youth. I will say on vacation to Monterey, CA, I found a comic shop and spent most of my time and money there on a family vacation.
